How Legal Services Alabama helps those in need


On this week s edition of The Beasley Allen Report, host Gibson Vance welcomes James (Jimmy) Fry to talk about Legal Services Alabama (LSA). Thousands of people have been helped by Legal Services Alabama. The non-profit agency provides quality civil legal aid to Alabama s low income community. They handle issues ranging from family law to tax issues, at no cost to their clients who qualify. Fry serves as LSA s Executive Director. During his career, Fry has served in the U.S. Army, was District Attorney in Limestone County, and served as an Appellate Judge. All my life, since 1979, I ve thought of the practice of law as actually being in the justice business. If you re doing criminal law or civil law, you hope it s all about justice, he says. LSA operates nine offices throughout the state, employing about 60 lawyers and 40 support staff. The agency mainly serves people in poverty who would otherwise be unable to afford an attorney.
